Tennis Comes to Oakwood Elementary in Huntington

August 2, 2011 | By Long Island Tennis Magazine Staff

Volunteers from around Long Island joined the USTA’s Long Island Tennis Service Representative Bill Mecca to introduce almost 250 of Huntington’s elementary school children to the many fun and health benefits of tennis. In a program that has been used in successfully in many schools around the Island, the USTA Eastern Section takes over a school’s gym for the day and the normally scheduled physical education classes receive free lessons from many volunteers and certified tennis professionals.

The USTA is particularly interested in introducing tennis to children 10 and Under. Utilizing the QuickStart format, children learn how to play quickly and have more fun learning, and the USTA brings all the equipment and instructors. To bring the sport of tennis into your school or park, contact Bill Mecca at mecca@eastern.usta.com for full details.
