The second-round of the Suffolk County playoffs were played on Wednesday afternoon, and top seeds Half Hollow Hills East and Commack each cruised in their playoff openers to advance to the quarterfinals.

The Thunderbirds of Hills East stayed perfect on the year, moving past Connetquot 7-0. Next up for Hills East is Islip, who edged Sachem 4-3 on Wednesday.

Commack downed Mattituck 6-1, led by its top singles player Andy Zhou, who beat Garret Malave 6-3, 6-4. Andrew Lin and Tyler D’Amato chipped in wins at third and fourth singles, respectively, and all three of Commack’s doubles tandems won in straight sets.

Up next for Commack is Huntington. The Blue Devils moved past Westhampton 7-0 on Wednesday, led by Marco Ammirati’s 6-3, 6-3 win over Danny Tocco at second singles.

Commack and Huntington played twice this year, both close 4-3 Commack victories, setting up what should be an exciting quarterfinal showdown.

The defending county champions and third-seeded Half Hollow Hills West made its way into the quarterfinals with a 7-0 win over Miller Place, led by Justin Silberlust’s 6-1, 6-0 win over Ali Rahman at fourth singles.

The Colts will take on East Hampton, who edged Patchogue-Medford 4-3 on Wednesday.

The other quarterfinal in Suffolk will see Ward Melville take on Bay Shore. Ward Melville defeated Harborfields 5-2 on Wednesday while Bay Shore got past Smithtown West 4-3.
