Massapequa, Wantagh Stay Perfect With Wednesday Wins

The Massapequa Chiefs moved to 5-0 on the season, gutting out a tough 4-3 win over Oceanside in a Conference II-B showdown on Wednesday afternoon.

This tightly-contested match would come down to the second doubles court, and John Probst and Joseph Menichini clinched the win for Massapequa with a 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-3 win over Noah Davis and Jared Weber.

Massapequa now sits ahead of Hewlett (4-0) in the conference standings.

Wantagh also continued its undefeated start to the season by beating Lawrence 6-1 in Conference IV play. Nick Cerasi notched a 6-0, 6-0 win at first singles to lead the way for the Warriors, and Tristan Cruz and Matt Pullman helped the cause with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Danny Guevarra and Marcus Moldanado at second doubles.

In a key Conference II-A matchup, Garden City was able to edge Great Neck South 4-3 to improve to 2-1 on the season. This contest would come down to the fourth doubles court, and Matt Donohue and Nick Krawiec clinched the team win with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Eric Bae and Shrinath Vowarathan.

Jericho continues to play well as it won its third straight match behind its top two singles players. The Jayhawks won 7-0 over Friends Academy in Conference I, as Michael Wexler beat Samir Singh 6-4, 6-7(3), 10-8 at first singles and Varun Reddy beat Pius Lo 6-2, 6-3 at second singles to lead the way for Jericho.

The Syosset Braves keep on rolling as it won its 39th straight match on Wednesday, defeating Great Neck North 5-2 in Conference I play. Justin Oresky won the clincher for Syosset at third singles to move the Braves to 5-0.

Also in Conference I, Plainview JFK climbed back to .500 with a 4-3 win over Cold Spring Harbor. With the match all even at 3-3, the third doubles team of Ethan Treihaft and Sean Cohen came back from a set down to beat Brett Grady and Sean Burns 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 to clinch the victory for the Hawks.
