Tips From The Pro: Consistent vs. Aggressive

Every tennis player is different. Some of us are Type A and some of us are laid back and just willing to take it as it comes. The best tennis players are able to find the right combination of consistency and aggressiveness.

Some of us should be on the more aggressive end and some need to be on the more consistent end. Try to follow your natural tendencies but realize tennis is one of those activities best played by the "moderate" player-not too much "try to hit the ball so my opponent can't hit it back" and not too much "I just have to get every ball back in play".

Personally, I tend to want to end the point quickly. If I tell myself to hit one extra ball when I get that urge to finish the point, I am a much better player. The steady players need to convince themselves to try to win the point at times, especially when they get an easier ball and have already established their consistency.

Use your instincts but get your idea to be in between consistent and aggressive so that you are successful against a variety of different types of players.
