Tips From The Pro: Follow Through!

Time for one of the most basic technique tips that everyone can use. The groundstroke follow through is more important than you think-it helps keep the path of the swing consistent and allows your racquet to gain momentum through the point of contact.

The modern follow through has changed. With the new racquet and string technology, the balls are moving faster than ever and have more spin than ever. Your follow through should end with your hands touching your opposite shoulder (for right handers-right hand on left shoulder for forehands and left hand on right shoulder for two handed backhand-opposite for lefties). Don't think so much about the racquet but try to get your hands to continue until they reach your shoulder or upper arm area. This will help give you just the right amount of low to high and produce the correct combination of spin and speed.

One-handers should have the racquet head finishing slightly above the opposite shoulder. Watch Federer, Nadal, Murray and Djokovic to get a good visual of what the follow through should look like.

Finish those swings!
