The singles quarterfinals at the 2022 Australian Open are officially set after the last remaining fourth round contests were played on Monday.

The favorite on the men’s side, Daniil Medvedev, ended the run of American Max Cressy by way of a 6-2, 7-6(4), 6-7(4), 7-5 victory on Monday.

“It was not easy,” said Medvedev. “The scoreline, only the first set I managed to sprint in front of him and kind of win it easy. All the other sets were a tough fight. If I wouldn’t win the fourth one, I’d probably be in a tough mental shape because I had so many break points. I just wanted to make one.”

The second-seeded Russian will now take on Canadian Felix Auger Aliassime. The ninth-seed came back from a set down to defeat former U.S. Open champion and 27th seed Marin Cilic 2-6, 7-6(7), 6-2, 7-6(4).

American Taylor Fritz saw his run in Melbourne come to an end, as fourth-seed Stefanos Tsitsipas outlasted him 4-6, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

“An epic match, that’s’ what I can say,” said Tsitsipas. “I gave everything out on the court today, I’m very proud of myself the way I fought, the way I stayed consistent in the moments that were very close and crucial.”

Tsitsipas moves on to face 11th seeded Italian Jannik Sinner, who ousted Australia’s own Alex De Minaur 7-6(3), 6-3, 6-4.

American Danielle Collins’ run continued as she secured her spot in the final eight with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 comeback win over 19th seed Elise Mertens.

“I think today it was especially physically really tough for me,” said Collins. “I played a long match the other day—I think two-and-a-half hours, I played doubles for about an hour and half—so I’ve had to make a lot of technical adjustments to get myself comfortable to move around.”

Collins is one of three American women in the final eight, joining Madison Keys and 21st seed Jessica Pegula. She will play France’s Alize Cornet, who upset 14th seed Simona Halep 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.

Last year’s French Open champion Iga Swiatek booked her spot in the final eight, coming back from a set down to beat Sorana Cirstea 5-7, 6-3, 6-3.

Swiatek draws Estonia’s Kaia Kanepi who knocked out second-seed Aryna Sabalenka 5-7, 6-2, 7-6(7).
