The finals of the Girls Suffolk County Tennis Championships pitted Half Hollow Hills West against Half Hollow Hills East. These were the top two seeds, as both teams finished 9-1 in league play (Conference I). They had split their two regular season meetings. With the Championship on the line and the rivalry that already exists between two good teams that are so close geographically the finals had the chance to be a great battle.

The premier showdown was between the two top singles players Carly Siegel (HHHW) and Samantha Elgort (HHHE). Both are heading to the Individual State Tournament next weekend to represent Long Island. Elgort will play singles and Siegel will play doubles. On this day, Elgort was the better player and got things going for East with a victory. The rest of the singles matches went to HHHW though. Second singles Zenat Rashidzada, third singles Malini Desai and fouth singles Lauren Salzano were all victorious. The singles results meant that HHHW only needed one win in doubles play to claim the title. Second doubles went to the team from HHHE making the overall score 3-2 in favor of West but when the third doubles team of Hailey Oswath and Carli Rumstein won for HHHW the victory was clinched. At that point the first doubles match that was tied at a set apiece was called and HHHW celebrated their championship.

Half Hollow Hills West will take the court again today, Tuesday, Nov. 2, as they will take on Long Island Champion Syosset at 2:00 p.m. at Smithtown East High School in the Long Island Championship match. Syosset won the title last year and will looking to win back-to-back Long Island crowns.
