The Syosset High School Girls Tennis team defeated Roslyn in the Nassau County Conference I semifinals on Tuesday afternoon at Syosset High School in dominant fashion by a final of 6-1. The top-seeded and undefeated Lady Braves will now face second-seeded Port Washington in the Nassau Finals Wednesday afternoon at Wheatley High School at 4:00 p.m. Syosset will be looking to win their fourth consecutive conference title. Port Washington advanced to the finals by defeating Garden City.

First singles player Vivian Cheng set the tone for Syosset, defeating Melissa Luchs, 6-1, 6-0.

"I just tried to play my game despite a little bit of wind blowing through the courts," said Cheng. "I just tried to keep my feet moving all the time and made sure to hit the ball high and deep. It worked out pretty well for me."

Cheng added that she is looking forward to the finals match against Port Washington.

"I just have to go in mentally prepared and hope to get a win so our team can get its fourth conference title in a row."

The second doubles team of Paige Gindi & Joelle Porush, who are also co-captains for the team, lost, 4-6, 4-6, but even in defeat, shared Vivian’s sentiments about the final and their careers playing for Syosset.

"We’re pretty excited about the possibility of getting our fourth title tomorrow," said Gindi. "Joelle and I are both seniors and we definitely want to end our career on a good note."
