Boys high school tennis players from Long Island had an impressive showing at the NYSPHSAA State Tennis Championships that wrapped up this past Saturday, June 5 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

In singles play, Josh Levine from Cold Spring Harbor finished second overall in the tournament. His only defeat came at the hands of number one seed and New York State Champion Jermey Court from New Rochelle. The second place showing earned Levine All-State honors. Levine, who is only a sophomore, will undoubtedly be back to try and go one step further and earn a State Championship next season.

In doubles play, two Long Island representatives advanced to the semifinals where they both came up a bit short. That setup a a rematch of the Nassau County Doubles FInals, this time in the third place match. As was the case when they met in the Nassau County Boys Doubles Finals, Matt Barry and Eric Rubin from Long Beach defeated Ignacio Casali and Bendan Henry from Farmingdale, 6-3, 6-2.

It was a great season for Long Island HIgh School tennis and look for a full Boys High School Season Recap in the July/August 2010 edition of Long Island Tennis Magazine.
