The semifinals for the China Open, on both the men’s and women’s side, are finalized after exciting quarterfinal action in Beijing on Friday.

The top match of the day was the showdown between two-time Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka and US Open champion Bianca Andreescu. The match was preceded by high expectation and it did not disappoint, with Osaka coming out on top 5-7, 6-3, 6-4.

“I know that she is incredibly smart. She knows when the rally isn’t working out for her, when to change it up and make it difficult for the other person. So just to experience that in person was very frustrating,” said Osaka. “But also I think for me, my game plan going in was to just be the more aggressive player. I can’t be the defensive one. Just trust myself, trust my serve, be aggressively consistent until I have the shot.”

Osaka moves on to play Caroline Wozniacki, who advanced with a 6-3, 7-6(5) victory over Daria Kasatkina.

The other women’s singles semifinal will see top-ranked Ash Barty play Kiki Bertens of the Netherlands.

On the men’s side, top-seed Dominic Thiem ended Andy Murray’s run with a 6-2, 7-6(3) triumph. Thiem will meet Russia’s Karen Khachanov for a spot in the finals.

In the other semifinal, Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas, who ousted American Sam Querrey on Friday, squares off against German Alexander Zverev.
