Hewlett Beats Manhasset To Reach Nassau Quarterfinals

The Nassau County Playoffs got underway on Wednesday with first-round action across the county taking place on a beautiful spring afternoon.

The third-seeded Plainview Hawks got past Conference III-B champions Mepham 7-0, as Jared Phillips, Anthony Casale and Eric Treihaft each won their singles matches in straight sets to lead the Hawks into the quarterfinals.

Plainview moves on to play Great Neck North, who were a 6-1 winner over Massapequa.

Hewlett ousted Manhasset 4-3 in a tightly-contested first-round battle. The Conference II-A champions continued their undefeated season as Laurent Dorvilier and Paul Ledon held on to win 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 over Henry Son and Lucas Kim at second doubles to clinch the victory.

Awaiting Hewlett in the quarterfinals is three-time defending county champions Syosset.

Port Washington defeated Glen Cove 6-1 to move into a matchup with the winner of Wheatley and Great Neck South, who will play their first-round match on Thursday.

Cold Spring Harbor swept all seven courts for a 7-0 win over 10th seed Bellmore. The seventh-seeded Seahawks will play second-seed Roslyn for a spot in the semifinals.
